It’s not exactly a secret. So why is the lobby practically empty on weekdays? If you live in Los Angeles, you probably wfh too. And the Proper Hotel in Santa Monica is where you should be doing it. I see people hotspotting for hours at Caffe Luxxe, or cramming into a seat at Intelligentsia on Abbot Kinney, and I think… why not the Proper? Designed by the iconic Kelly Wearstler, it’s a free WiFi hotel lobby with 2 restaurants (Calabra’s food has improved so much over the years I rly enjoyed my lunch there). The interior is a masterpiece. You can also sneak away to Floor 2 for a little outdoor solo time. The interior lighting is perfect to keep you motivated till your 6:30 pm clock-out time. PSA: ask for tap water, or you’ll be charged $12 for Acqua Panna without mention…

I always tell myself I’ll spend a peaceful morning at the Greystone Mansion, but never do. Every time I go, I wonder why I don’t visit more often. The grounds are open and free to the public, the inside visits are limited to a few days a month. Strolling the grounds of Greystone is a fantasy. It’s the perfect place to journal and meditate (tbh I don’t do either of those), or escape your responsibilities for the day (that, is a practice I partake in). The mansion is a historical landmark in Los Angeles. They’ve filmed countless movies and TV shows there including one of my favorites ever: The Holiday. It’s usually filled with tourists, but the gardens are so big you can escape the crying babies and selfie sticks. I always say I’ll spend a morning here… I never do. Maybe you will :)
