There are two kinds of people in Los Angeles: Courage Bagels people and Layla Bagels people.
You don’t really choose one - you are one.
Courage Bagels is the original love story between Los Angeles and bagels. For years, there has been a line out the door of people waiting patiently wearing a Courage Bagels hat on their head. Pledging their allegiance to their local bagel shop. They set the groundwork for bagels in Los Angeles and created a space for bagel culture in an anti-gluten society. Why its worked? Their bagels are light, focused on fresh seasonal ingredients, and open-faced. It’s now become a ritual for people to wait 30-45 minutes for their bagels on weekend mornings.
With the spark of the LA bagel renaissance, along came Layla Bagels. Many people have wondered if it is a copycat for West LA. There is now a line out the door at both locations: Santa Monica & Beverly Hills. Their bagels are equally as beautiful, with fresh ingredients, and open-faced.
But here’s the thing:
I don’t know a single person who casually switches between them.
You’re a Courage person or a Layla person. There’s no in-between.
To anyone outside of LA, this is all gibberish. But to us, this is how you define what kind of LA person you are. Your bagel allegiance is a character-defining choice. So, which one are you?
(P.S. PopUp Bagels is opening in Brentwood. The bagel era is upon us.)
