Everyone in Los Angeles has commitment issues.

In a city where everything is limitless (except weekend curfews), we have endless possibilities, so we often do… nothing. The abundance of opportunity leaves us paralyzed. A good problem, sure, but still a problem.

A psychology book I’m reading said humans were only meant to know 150 people in their lifetime. Back in the caveman days (quick detour, I promise), we just had our small tribal circle. Now, I could go to 2 events on this list and meet 150 people in one day.

So why don’t we?

Maybe it’s because we can’t commit. Not even to plans, let alone people. You get an invite, reply “omg funnnn! will let you know,” and wait until the last second - knowing you’ll probably stay home.

Maybe it’s the driving. 45 minutes each way for one drink? No thanks.
Or maybe it’s something deeper: we’re overwhelmed by possibility, so we take the easy, introverted route. “There’s so much to do, let’s just go to our local bar.”

But if we’re paying LA rent, shouldn’t we at least pretend to be living the dream?

I (an introvert) am making myself get out there this weekend. Talk to strangers. Commit to the bit.
Maybe you should too?
