“Why are you nervous? What’s the worst that can happen?” is the last thing my Friend said to me on our FaceTime before I left the house for my date. She’s right. What is the worst thing that can happen?
I could walk headfirst into an electrical control box.
Thankfully, the only thing that was bruised was my ego. I know you’re wondering how I managed to do that…
He picked me up in an Uber XL (points for that). I guess that the car door was so tall that when I went to exit it, I closed the door, and in my blind spot was a control box. Honestly, writing this sounds even more dumb. I don’t have a good answer as to how that happened. But it’s the unfortunate reality.
Luckily, I was wearing my new cute flats (linked below), so I didn’t fall over. If I were in heels, that would have been the end of me. Getting the shoe of the season really paid off ($138 vs a hospital bill— girl math).
And yes, he saw it. His reaction was “smooth”. I still can’t tell if that makes me feel better or worse. So, of course, when we got to 88 Club for pre-dinner drinks, I got tipsy. How else was I going to get through this night? I think 88 Club has one of the most beautiful bars in Beverly Hills. It feels chic and Parisian, although the food is modern Chinese. And hanging with the bartenders feels like catching up with old friends.
We walked next door to La Dolce Vita. We got the croquettes, the steak, which was perfection — buttery and flavorful, and I had the branzino. The crowd skews older, but if you can get a matchbook from there, do it. Such a good one for the collection.
So yeah, that was the last time we saw each other. And now I keep replaying that moment in my head all week. My Friends haven’t stopped laughing at me, so don’t feel bad for doing so, too.
